Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, is proposing to change the standard vessel size ranges and vessel nomination reflected in its daily global LNG cargo price assessments, effective Jan. 16, 2024.
For the JKM, WIM, SEAM, MEM, NWE, MED and EMM LNG cargo assessments, the proposed standard LNG vessel size range would be 135,000-180,000 cu m, against the current standard LNG vessel size range considered at 135,000-175,000 cu m or a minimum of 135,000 cu m.
For the GCM cargo assessments, the proposed standard LNG vessel size range would be 150,000-185,000 cu m.
For offers reflected in the global LNG assessments, Platts proposes to only reflect those with a base vessel already stated in the offers, as opposed to the current standard, whereby sellers are not required to nominate a base vessel if the delivery window is not within a given number of days ahead of the publication date.
The proposal is in line with industry practice, feedback and the observed trend of larger sizes for new-built vessels.
