Platts updates USGC MEG specifications, cargo sizes

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has updated the specifications and cargo sizes for its existing spot US Gulf Coast monoethylene glycol assessment effective May 29, 2023, to better reflect standard market practices.

The decision to make this change was published on May 1, 2023, available here.

The Platts assessment now reflects 99.1% purity cargoes loading in 5,000 mt parcels.

These parameters correspond to the predominantly produced and traded purity in the US and align with typical volumes observed for deep-sea export cargoes to Europe and Asia.

Platts may normalize pricing information reflecting other cargo sizes and purity levels, where applicable. As part of this change to specification, Platts also has removed the word "anti-freeze" from the symbol description.

Previous New
Description MEG Anti-Freeze Grade FOB USG cts/lb Weekly MEG FOB USG cts/lb Weekly
Cargo size 1,000-2,000 mt 5,000 mt
Purity Minimum purity of 95% 99.10%

The proposed change affects the following symbols: PHAXF04 (Weekly) PHBDG03 (Monthly average).

The MEG assessment appears in Polymerscan, Olefinscan, Platts Dimensions Pro and Platts Market Center.
