The Eagle Ford Shale is located in the Gulf Coast Basin in South Texas, covering 12,000 square miles. Roughly 90 operators generated volumes from the play in 2016, though only 42 brought at least one new well on stream that year.
Operated production remains concentrated, as five companies – EOG, Chesapeake, Marathon, ConocoPhillips, and Sanchez (because of its acquisition of Anadarko’s Maverick Basin acreage) – accounted for about 60% of the play’s wedge production from March 2016 to March 2017.
