What sets us apart

Key features

Unparalleled data coverage:
  • Global coverage of scope 1 emissions, along with scope 2 emissions in North America
  • Modeled historical and projected estimates for full project life, including absolute emissions and emissions intensity
Best-in-class data granularity:
  • Data for CO2, CH4, and N2O emissions, broken down by source (fuel gas/diesel combustion, flaring, venting, fugitives)
  • Well-level data for onshore North America (6 million wells) and asset/project-level data internationally (19,000 projects)
Transparent and reliable methodology
  • Transparent proprietary estimation methodology draws on 10 years of technical emissions modeling expertise and S&P Global’s unrivaled depth of upstream data
  • Integration and calibration of reported emissions and specific company-announced actions
  • Data Quality Metric assessing reliability and representativity of each individual estimate
Seamless integration
  • Integrated with our well and asset level technical and production data
  • Delivered through S&P Global’s Energy Studio: Impact and Vantage platforms
  • Direct client ingestion through API/Snowflake

Key benefits

Benchmark how your assets’ emissions compare to peers
  • The modeled emissions dataset uses consistent methodology and boundaries, allowing for direct comparisons at the portfolio and asset/well level, with full transparency on the inputs and relative confidence in each estimate.
Identify high-performing and under-performing wells and projects
  • Analyze your portfolio in relation to wells and assets in the same peer groups to rank emissions performance. Use this information to identify best practices and make decisions about abatement solutions.
Understand the nature of GHG emissions from the upstream sector
  • The dataset breaks down emissions by type (CO2, CH4, and N2O) and source (fuel gas/diesel combustion, flaring, venting, fugitives), so you can develop custom mitigation solutions for each well or project.
Identify advantaged barrels
  • Incorporate emissions forecasts for analog assets into your screening workflow to prioritize low emissions intensity in your portfolio strategy.
Incorporate GHG emissions-associated costs and risks into project and transaction valuations
  • Bring well- and asset-level emissions forecasts into your evaluations to reflect potential costs from GHG-related pricing mechanisms, taxations or penalties.
