Challenge

CCUS is gaining momentum as a growing number of countries set ambitious climate targets and recognize the potential of CCUS. A client engaged S&P Global to support and evaluate the CCS potential in Brazil and to develop a roadmap for deployment of the first CCS hub/cluster.

Solution

• Identified and estimated capacity and costs of geological storage opportunities
• Identified abatement alternatives for various sectors and developed a CCUS abatement cost curve at the facility level
• Provided a policy overview of key international CCUS experience and compared these with the proposed guidelines for CCUS Legal Framework in Brazil, identifying potential gaps
• Provided a high-level assessment of the economic impacts of CCUS infrastructure investment and deployment across key sectors within Brazil
• Determined key regions for CCUS hub/cluster in Brazil to optimize the regional CO2 capture, transport and storage and created a roadmap with milestones, for a large- scale deployment of CCUS hubs

Results

Provided a roadmap for CCS deployment in Brazil, that evaluated the capture and storage potential by location, This is being used by the client as a starting point for engaging on a pre-conceptual design study for the development of the first hub.

Challenge

A Latin American NOC wanted to develop a digital platform to map and manage the GHG emissions from its operations and develop new sources of low-carbon revenue.

Solution

•  Helped develop a vision for an effective emissions management solution, leveraging the technology environment.
• Guided a series of innovation workshops, along with Microsoft, to determine and develop a visualization for the platform.
• Developed a joint understanding of needs and a shared vision for the solution concept and emission management platform strategy for the industry.
• Crafted a vision demonstrator, value props and platform based on abatement cost and abatement impact.
• Planned next steps for validation and further outreach to stakeholders.
• Defined rapid prototyping and “deep proofs”.
• Collaborated with stakeholders to develop a high-level execution roadmap for the digital solution.

Results

The solution and roadmap gave the company’s CEO and Board the tools to develop and implement the suggested digital platform that would enable the company to meet their net zero targets.

Challenge

• A key aspect of the energy strategy of our client, a Middle East NOC, includes encouraging foreign direct investment.
• Our client wished to conduct an open-door licensing round for the first time in its history and requested support from CI Consulting on all aspects of the bid and licensing process.

Solution

• We advised on the nature of opportunities that should be offered, developed key strategy and supported objective setting.
• Advised and provided capacity-building services related to aspects of E&P contracts and licensing processes.
• Developed economic model and evaluated options for optimization of fiscal terms.
• We developed a bid guidance document that included procedural details and selection criteria
• We facilitated key aspects of the marketing process including development of dedicated web site and promotion of a roadshow.
• We organized and supported the licensing round events, presenting on the fiscal terms and guiding potential applicants through the bidding procedure and key contractual terms.

Results

• The bid round opened conventional oil and gas exploration to international investors.
• Blocks were licensed to IOCs, with alternative tax systems proposed.
• The round led to 7 discoveries from 19 wells with development investments exceeding 2.3 billion USD, generating significant value for operators and the government

Challenge

• After years of lukewarm results in exploration and production (E&P), sub-Sahara country reformed its upstream sector and established a dedicated regulatory agency previously held by its National Oil Company (NOC). 
• The newly established regulatory agency  engaged CI Consulting to support its first bidding round executed by the newly established regulator to encourage both local and international investment and revitalizing E&P sector

Solution

• We supported the preparation for the first bidding round, including public announcements and identification of key objectives and desired outcomes
• We reviewed technical data and generated promotional material
• We designed the bidding process, evaluation and qualification criteria and marketing strategy
• We carried fiscal and contractual benchmarking and supported establishment of a model production-sharing agreement and call for bids
• We executed local and international roadshows; assisted with contract negotiation strategy, logistics of meetings, assessment and comparison of alternative proposals and contract negotiation.

Results

• The bid round offered blocks in the frontier areas with limited exploration.
• Several blocks were awarded under Production Sharing Agreements (PSA) to international and national oil companies, with plans for two exploration wells
• Unawarded blocks were subsequently offered under an open-door policy.
