Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, would like to clarify that its US Gulf Coast Colonial Pipeline gasoline assessments will follow the cycle roll set for CBOB, known as A grade on the pipeline.
This clarification follows publication of the most recent Colonial Pipeline scheduling calendar, which shows for the first time different cycle scheduling dates for unleaded 87 and CBOB grades.
Platts has restated its methodology to reflect that cycle changes will happen in conjunction with regular CBOB gasoline instead of conventional, or finished, gasoline (M grade). CBOB has the highest volume shipped on the 1.36 million b/d pipeline among all the grades.
Platts will continue to roll all the gasoline grade assessments at the same time to ensure that prompt pipeline assessments for different grades reflect values on the same cycle, aiming to eliminate misalignments between the various RVP levels, NYMEX basis months and regrade values.
The changes will take effect on Jan. 9, the first day when the 5th Colonial Pipeline shipping cycle will be the prompt cycle.
The cycle schedule is dictated by Colonial Pipeline, and subject to change over the course of the year. The cycles among products differ for shipping purposes. For example, the CBOB gasoline 13th cycle and RBOB 13th cycle may not necessarily start on the same day.
Platts publishes outright price assessments for all products, as well as differentials to the relevant futures contracts for key products. The differentials are published versus the same futures contract month that forms the basis of the outright price assessments.
The restatement will affect the following assessments for Colonial Pipeline:
