Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, is to launch a new daily price assessment for the European high-grade auto shred aluminum scrap market, effective Jan. 2, 2024.
European market participants have sought greater transparency of aluminum scrap pricing as they seek to use more recycled content to meet decarbonization goals. The assessment will bring additional transparency to the market for high-grade auto shreds, also known as floated fragmentizer scrap.

Following market feedback, Platts has revised quality specifications from the original proposal to reflect that the high-grade auto shred considered in the assessment is derived from either wet or dry media separation device. Platts is additionally clarifying metallics and non-metallics content in line with the ISRI "Twitch" specification.
The revised assessment specifications are as follows:

The assessment is to be published on Platts Nonferrous Metals Alert pages, Platts Metals Daily, Platts Connect, Platts Market Center, and in the Platts price database under the symbols listed above. The daily assessment is to be included on pages MTL4310 and PMA4310, while the monthly average is to be included on MTL4311 and PMA4311.
