SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts to amend Asia Supramax coal cargo sizes

Following a period of industry consultation and feedback, S&P Global Platts confirms it will change the cargo sizes for some Asia Pacific Supramax thermal coal freight assessments, effective January 2, 2018.

Platts has observed that suppliers from Indonesia and South Africa are extensively offering thermal coal cargoes in parcels of 55,000 mt (plus/minus 10%) for India-bound voyages.

The liquidity for the 55,000 mt (plus/minus 10%) coal stem size has grown with charterers preferring to move larger parcels to maximize freight returns.

As a result, Platts will increase the cargo size on the existing South Kalimantan to Paradip; South Kalimantan to Navlakhi and Richards Bay to Paradip assessments from 50,000 mt (+/-10%) to 55,000 mt (+/-10%) to reflect current liquidity on these routes.
