S&P Global Platts has decided to amend the methodology for its zinc US MW SHG Galvanizer Premium assessment (MMAYI00) to better reflect the potential differential in premiums for zinc sold mainly to steel galvanizers in the larger-dimension shape known as "strip jumbos."
The change will take place on January 6, 2017.
The new specification will reflect a weekly assessment of the spot premium or discount to the LME special high-grade zinc cash settlement price for zinc in jumbo form, with typical physical properties including weight of 2,426 lb (1,100 kg), length of 31.5 inches (80 cm), depth of 20 inches (50 cm) and height of 20 inches (50 cm).
The assessment will include SHG zinc with a composition of 99.995% Zn or continuous galvanizing grade containing 0.22% to 1.10% aluminum.
The assessment will be normalized to a typical spot quantity of one-two railcars, or four-nine truckloads, delivered US Midwest, net-30 day payment terms.
The name of the assessment will change to Zinc US Galvanizer Premium from Zinc MW SHG Galvanizer Premium previously.
