Platts discontinues Newcastle Thermal Coal assessment

Effective December 2, 2019, and following market consultation, S&P Global Platts has discontinued its FOB Newcastle 6,300 kcal/kg GAR physical grades along with associated financial forward curves.

As per the proposal note dated September 3, 2019, which can be found here: https://www.spglobal.com/platts/en/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/090319-platts-proposes-discontinuing-fob-newcastle-6300-kcalkg-gar-physical-and-fob-newcastle-6000-kcalkg-nar-financial-forward- the following associated physical assessments are discontinued as a result:

FOB Newcastle 6,300 kcal/kg GAR 7-45 day $/mt – CSNCB00

FOB Newcastle 6,300 kcal/kg GAR 7-45 day EUR/mt – CSNCC00

FOB Newcastle 6,300 kcal/kg GAR 7-45 day $/mt Monthly Average – CSNCB03

FOB Newcastle 6,300 kcal/kg GAR 7-45 day $/mt Quarterly Average – CSNCB05

The physical assessments were published on Global Coal Alert pages 0425 and 0410, EP 0910 and 0912, in Coal Trader International, Power Weekly, Coal Asia Monthly, and in Market Data Category CI.

Platts has also discontinued its associated FOB Newcastle 6,000 kcal/kg NAR financial assessments, which were published on European Power pages 903 and Global Coal Alert page 440, in Coal Trader International and in Market Data Category DC. These codes were published under the following codes:

The last day of assessment for the codes listed above was November 29, 2019.

Platts will continue to publish its daily FOB Newcastle 5,500 kcal/kg NAR 20% ash and 23% ash assessments with codes AAVUW00 and AAVVB00, respectively.
