SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts to realign bunker assessment publish schedule

Please note that Platts intends to realign its publishing schedule for global bunker fuel markets with the schedules for its core publishing hubs in Singapore, London and Houston, with effect from 2014. Under this revised approach, all bunker fuel assessments for Asia and the Middle East would be published in accord with the Singapore publishing schedule. All bunker fuel assessments for Europe and Africa would be published in accord with the London publishing schedule, and all bunker fuel assessments for the Americas would be published in line with the Houston publishing schedule. This would represent a change from publishing conventions in some bunker markets, where Platts has at times published bunker fuel assessments for local markets even when its core publishing hubs have been closed; it would also be a change in markets where Platts has not assessed local bunker fuel values, even when its core publishing locations have been open. Platts is aligning its publishing schedules to make its global publishing schedule simpler, easier to use, and more reflective of global markets. This change also reflects an increased concentration of market assessments in core publishing hubs. For example, under this simplified publishing schedule, Platts will not publish assessments for the Japanese and South Korean bunker markets when Singapore is closed. Similarly, Platts will publish assessments for those markets when it is publishing in general from Singapore, even when those markets see reduced activity because of national holidays. Platts will assess values for such markets by analyzing the value of bunker fuel in related markets that are active, and assessing affected markets in line with those markets. Platts will also take into account activity reported from markets affected by local holidays. Platts will continue to review other markets that may be assessed using local publishing schedules, and study possible further realignments in the future.
