Platts proposes to launch a weekly chlorine spot price assessment

Platts, part of S&P Global Community Insights, proposes to launch a weekly spot price assessment for Northeast Asia chlorine effective Feb. 1.

The new assessment would complement Platts existing global chlor-alkali coverage.

Proposed product specifications:

Liquid/gas chlorine with a minimum purity of 99.5% by volume, moisture of 50 PPM max by weight.

Assessment specifications:

Unit of measurement: USD/mt

Cargo size: Minimum 1,800 mt

Basis and location: FOB NE Asia

The weekly assessment would be based on information sourced from the market up to the close of the assessment process at 4:30 pm Singapore time every Thursday and would be based on a fixed calculation.

The cost calculation formula would be based on deducting cost of ethylene component and Ethylene Dichloride (EDC) conversion from EDC FOB NE Asia price, which is further converted into chlorine cost.
