S&P Global Platts has started collecting and publishing pricing information heard in the North Americas power markets in order to bring further transparency and enhance Platts coverage of the Northeast, Southeast, Central and West markets.
The data includes completed transactions, firm bids and offers, and indicative values.
The data is gathered by surveying active market participants throughout the day, and any market participant is also able to submit data to electricityprice@spglobal.com.
Surveyed market prices are published as real-time headlines, or "market heards," on Platts Electricity Alert (PEA) and Platts Americas Gas & Power Alert (AGP) page 1106.
The heards include all specifications known about the transaction, bid, offer or indicative value received, including delivery location, delivery data, price and volume.
For example, Platts Electricity, Mid-Columbia: Deal heard done at $50/MWh for 25 MW for on-peak Nov. 1 delivery: intermediary source.
At this time, heards will not be integrated into Platts Southeast and West day-ahead and weekend assessments and indices.
The underlying methodology for the North Americas electricity markets remains unchanged and its full description can be found here: https://www.spglobal.com/platts/PlattsContent/_assets/_files/en/our-methodology/methodology-specifications/us_power_method.pdf.
Platts publishes heards across various commodity markets across the world as a means of verifying the heard information and soliciting market feedback about price repeatability and representativeness.
Please submit any feedback, comments or questions to electricityprice@spglobal.com and pricegroup@spglobal.com.
For written comments, please provide a clear indication if comments are not intended for publication by Platts for public viewing. Platts will consider all comments received and will make comments not marked as confidential available upon request.
