SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts to discontinue Latin America-USWC Panamax assessment

S&P Global Platts proposes to discontinue the Latin America-US West Coast Panamax assessment for dirty tankers, effective July 3, 2017.

The assessment currently reflects 50,000 dwt vessels for a basket of loading and discharge ports, namely: Mamonal, Colombia, to Los Angeles, California; Esmeraldas, Ecuador, to San Francisco, California; and Callao, Peru, to Seattle, Washington.

The proposal follows changes in the underlying market that have led to a significant drop in liquidity on the route assessed. Ship-tracking data from cFlow, Platts trade-flow software, shows only 14 Panamax vessels traveled the above routes during the period September 1, 2014, to November 5, 2016.

The assessment would no longer be published in the Dirty Tankerwire or on the PGT-MH1962 fixed page. The corresponding symbols for the cargo size (PFBAHSZ), Worldscale (PFBAH00) and $/mt (TDADI00) values would also be discontinued.
