Platts seeks feedback on European biodiesel methodology

S&P Global Platts would like to invite feedback on its European biodiesel methodology, particularly on the levels of greenhouse gas (GHG) savings reflected and the assessed date range.

Platts RME, FAME 0, PME, SME and FAME -10 FOB ARA assessments currently reflect material with sustainability documentation showing a minimum GHG saving of 50% when compared with the fossil fuel comparator, as per the European Union's Renewable Energy Directive calculation. Platts UCOME assessment FOB ARA reflects a minimum GHG saving of 87%. The fossil fuel comparator is due to change from 83.8gCO2eq/MJ under RED I to 94gCO2eq/MJ under RED II.

Platts European biodiesel assessments also reflect barge loading dates of 3/5-15 days forward.

Platts would welcome feedback on the above sustainability criteria and assessment period as well as the product specifications and parameters and any other topic relevant to its European biodiesel methodology.

Platts biodiesel specifications can be found in pages 6-7 of the methodology document: https://www.spglobal.com/platts/PlattsContent/_assets/_files/en/our-methodology/methodology-specifications/global_biofuels.pdf

Platts would also welcome feedback on the suite of assessments provided. Current biodiesel premium assessments are the following:

FAME 0 FOB ARA RED AAWGI00

SME FOB ARA RED AAWGJ00

RME FOB ARA RED AAWGK00

PME FOB ARA RED AAXNZ00

UCOME FOB ARA RED AUMEB00
