Platts discontinues Dark Spreads for the UK

Platts has discontinued the Platts Dark Spreads for the UK, following the phasing out of coal-fired electricity generation in the UK, from Nov. 19, 2025.

The UK's last remaining coal-fired power plant, Ratcliffe-on-Soar, was shut down Sept. 30, 2024, after more than five decades of operation as Britain made the commitment to phase out coal fired power generation.

While coal has long held only a minor share of UK power mix, Ratcliffe's closure was a symbolic milestone in the country's quest to fully decarbonize the power sector by 2030.
