November 15, 2023
Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, , is extending the feedback period on proposing an amendment to the DDP Germany sugar assessment effective Feb. 1, 2024.
The initial proposal note was published Nov. 1.
The weekly assessment currently reflects EU 45 ICUMSA white sugar delivered to Germany on a DDP basis.
Platts proposes to update the basis to reflect ExWorks Northwest Europe, with the assessment reflecting sugar produced from North Germany, North France, the Netherlands and Belgium, often referred to as the "beet belt".
The name of the assessment would also change to reflect the new basis: to EXW Northwest Europe.
Platts also proposes to update the quantity reference to reflect basis bulk sugar, considering 1,000 to 5,000 mt. Other volumes can be considered and may be normalized back to the reference volume range.
In addition, Platts proposes to publish the weekly EXW NWE assessment (SGAEG04), weekly UK delivered (SGAEF04) and North Italy delivered (SGAEL04) sugar prices to a Thursday market on close, rather than Friday, in line with Platts global sugar prices.
Platts is also proposing to add weekly market commentaries for the physical sugar markets in Asia, Brazil and Europe to be published on Platts Connect and the Global Sugar Market report.
