Platts launches Vietnamese OM 5451 5% broken white rice assessment

S&P Global Platts has now launched a daily price assessment for Vietnamese OM 5451 5% broken white rice, effective Nov. 15, 2021.

The expansion of soft cooking varieties, such as OM 5451, in South East Asian rice production has been noticeable in recent years, with many farmers switching away from traditional varieties to this premium and high yielding product.

OM 5451 has proven to be an extremely popular variety in key Vietnamese destination markets, primarily the Philippines, but also certain West African markets. This OM 5451 assessment is an addition to Platts existing daily Vietnamese IR 50404 white rice assessments.
