Energy Transition, Renewables
November 08, 2023
Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will launch daily assessments for Netherlands renewable energy units (HBEs) on Jan. 2, 2024.
Platts has observed a growing interest in renewable certificate markets across Europe in conjunction with the rise in biofuels demand and carbon offsetting schemes.
Platts will assess four different unit types for Netherlands HBEs:
The assessments will be published daily to a 1630 London time market close in Euros per Gigajoule.
Platts will assess a current year vintage from the first to the last working day of the calendar year. Platts would also assess a previous year vintage from the first working day of January until obligation deadline on the last working day of April. For example, the 2024 obligation year would be assessed as current obligation starting on the first working day of January 2024 until the last working day of December 2024. On the first working day of January 2025, it would roll into the previous obligation period, until expiry on May 1, 2025. The 2025 vintage would be assessed as the current year from the first working day of January.
The seller would be obligated to transfer the credits to the buyer by the last working day of April of the next year.
The assessment will reflect a minimum unit of 50,000 GJ. Lower volumes would be considered and may be normalized to the minimum specification level.
Platts continues to invite feedback on UK Renewable Transport Fuel Certificates and German Treibhausgasquoten markets.
