Platts to launch new US stainless cold-rolled sheet assessments

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will launch two new daily stainless cold-rolled coil (CRC) sheet spot price assessments for the US, effective Dec. 2, 2024.

The assessments will reflect stainless CRC sheet grades 304 and 316 purchased in minimum 20-short-ton parcels, ex-works US domestic mill with shipment of 3 to 8 weeks.

Platts originally proposed the new assessments in a subscriber note published Oct. 18.

Following market feedback, Platts has updated the dimension specifications to reflect thickness of 0.075-0.135" from the T 0.0272-0.1000" initially proposed.

The new assessments and their specifications will be as follows:

Assessment Symbol Monthly Average Quality Volume Dimensions Incoterm Timing Payment terms Unit
US 304 Stainless CRC EXW mill PLUSZ00 PLUSZ03 ASTM type 304 Min 20 st W 48-60", T 0.075-0.135" EXW US mill Shipment 3 to 8 weeks Net-30 days $/st
US 316 Stainless CRC EXW mill PLUSY00 PLUSY03 ASTM type 316 Min 20 st W 48-60", T 0.075-0.135" EXW US mill Shipment 3 to 8 weeks Net-30 days $/st

Platts will additionally be publishing unit conversions to $/mt.

The new daily US stainless CRC price assessments will be timestamped to 3:30 pm US Eastern time.

The new assessments will complement existing Platts ferrous assessments and reflect growing stainless steel demand from infrastructure, industrial and end-user applications, among others.

Platts spot price assessments consider market information reported to Platts and published throughout the day, including firm bids and offers, transactions and indications of value.

In the absence of observable spot market activity, Platts may consider other verifiable data reported. Platts observes direct market activity as well as the effect of movements in related markets through spread differentials, for example.

A full description of Platts price assessment methodology can be found here.

The assessments will be published on Platts Steel Alert, in the publications SBB Daily Briefing; World Steel Review, Steel Price Report, and Global Market Outlook; and in the Platts price database.
