Platts discontinues Brazil North-Northeast raw sugar assessments

S&P Global Platts has discontinued its North-Northeast Brazil FOB Maceio raw sugar assessments, effective Nov. 2, 2020.

Platts first proposed this discontinuation in a subscriber note published July 27.

Platts understands exports of raw sugar from Brazil's North-Northeast have been declining in recent years, with sugarcane production in the region shifting primarily to domestic production of ethanol. In addition, the limited export flows out of Brazil's North-Northeast region have largely been to fulfill contractual volumes in the US and Europe.

The affected assessments are:

SGABC00 - Brazil NNE VHP outright price

SGABB00 - Brazil NNE VHP Pol premium

These assessments will no longer appear on Platts Agriculture Alert page number 510, in the daily Global Sugar Market Report or in the Platts price database under the codes above.

Platts will continue to publish its Center-South Brazil FOB Santos raw sugar assessments.
