Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, proposes to amend all value inputs and assumptions that determine Platts Bunker Charges in container markets, to reflect more recent indicators of container vessel operations through the trade lanes assessed.
Due to the evolving nature of the container freight market both operationally and demographically, Platts has extensively analyzed shipping patterns for key trade lanes that pertain to Platts Bunker Charges.
That includes amendments of the following variables: vessel speeds, head-haul and back-haul distances, Emissions Control Area (ECA) and non-ECA zone distances, vessel sizes, head-haul and back-haul volume allocation, and head-haul and back-haul bunker consumption.
New data for variables has been compiled through a wider compilation of AIS data from vessel tracking software Market Intelligence Network (MINT), and vessel specifications from accredited data provider Maritime Intelligence Risk Suite (MIRS), both within S&P Global Market Intelligence.
The new data for the Platts Bunker Charge calculations can be found here: https://www.spglobal.com/commodityinsights/PlattsContent/_assets/_files/downloads/platts-pbc-specification-amendment-2024.xlsx
