Platts launches new APAC premium hard coking coal brand assessments

S&P Global Platts has launched 11 assessments for individual brands of premium hard coking coal on an FOB Australia and one on CFR China basis from November 1, 2019.

The launch of these assessments come on the back of consistent and growing market demand for increased differential pricing information in the metallurgical coal markets.

These daily assessments cover 11 specific brands: Peak Downs, Saraji, German Creek, Oaky North, Illawarra, Moranbah North, Goonyella, Peak Downs North, Goonyella C, Riverside and Hail Creek.

The new assessments reflect these brands’ typical specifications and are published alongside their respective CFR China brand relativities. As part of this project, Platts also launched a Riverside brand assessment on a CFR China basis.

The assessments are based on market data, including bids/offers, trades and tradable values, and where applicable, incorporate theoretical value-in-use (VIU) calculations.

These assessments are published on Platts Metals Alert on page 1064, with an accompanying commentary on page 1054, on Page 9 of SBB Steel Markets Daily, Page 8 of Coal Trader International and in the Platts database under the following codes:
