S&P Global Platts has launched two new daily container bunker charge assessments, as well as two net box rate assessments, excluding bunker charges, complementing Platts existing container assessments, effective November 1, 2018.
The new assessments cover the following container routes that are already assessed by Platts:
Head-Haul
Route From To Symbol PCR9 North Continent East Coast North America PCR0900
Back-Haul
PCR10 East Coast North America North Continent PCR1000
The bunker charge assessments reflect the bunker costs for transporting a forty-foot container on the above routes and are expressed in $/FEU.
These assessments are calculated using $/mt bunker prices in representative ports, published by Platts:
IFO380 PCR9 and PCR10 - Rotterdam, New York, Savannah, Charleston and Norfolk
LSMGO PCR9 and PCR10 - Rotterdam, New York, Savannah, Charleston, and Norfolk
The bunker charge round voyage weighting allocation, vessel speed and consumption used in the bunker charge calculations are arrived at by extensive market survey and reflect market practice. All assessments include a sea margin of 5%.
The voyage durations are arrived at by extensive market survey and the vessel will proceed on a round voyage basis to ports in geographical rotation within the below ranges:
PCR9 and PCR10 - East Coast North America-Rotterdam range
The above variables used in calculating bunker charge assessments will be regularly updated to reflect market practice and new regulations.
The new net box rate assessments are calculated by deducting the daily values of bunker charge assessments from the box rate assessments for the above routes and are also published on a $/FEU basis.
These prices are published in Platts Dry Freight Wire and Platts Global Alert service on the fixed page PGA 3960 and in the Platts database.
