Platts to launch US UCO and DCO assessments from Dec 2

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will launch daily US used cooking oil (UCO) and distiller’s corn oil (DCO) assessments, effective Dec. 2, 2024.

Platts has noted increasing liquidity in the UCO and DCO markets, particularly in Chicago, San Francisco and Houston, driven by demand for low carbon intensity and waste-based feedstocks for biomass-based diesel and sustainable aviation fuel production.

Platts will launch three new feedstock price assessments in the US:

  • UCO delivered to San Francisco
  • UCO delivered to Houston
  • DCO delivered to Chicago.

Deliveries to nearby locations such as New Orleans or Los Angeles may be considered and normalized back to basic location as appropriate.

The assessments will reflect a manifest rail market, with a minimum volume of five rail cars, delivered at place (DAP), 15-30 days forward from date of publication.

The UCO assessments will reflect maximum of 15% free fatty acids (FFA), and max 2% MIU (moisture, impurities, and unsaponifiable ).

The DCO assessment will reflect maximum of 15% FFA and a max 3% MIU.

The launch of the new assessments was first proposed in a subscriber note published October 7, available here .

The assessments will consider market information reported to Platts and published as heards throughout the day, including firm bids and offers, trades, and indicative values, as well as any other data deemed relevant to the assessment process.

These assessments will be published as an outright price in US cents/lb, with a timestamp of 1330 Houston time and follow the Platts US publishing schedule.
