Platts changes Indonesian thermal coal specifications; launches price differentials for sulfur, ash

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has amended the standard specifications and launched price differential assessments for sulfur and ash in its FOB Kalimantan thermal coal export assessments, effective Oct. 30.

Platts has changed the typical range of sulfur and ash content reflected in the following FOB Kalimantan thermal coal assessments:

For FOB Kalimantan 5,000 GAR (CSAKI00) and 5,900 GAR (CSAKH00), Platts has also increased the standard shipment volume size to 75,000 metric tons from 55,000 mt, while shortening the loading period to 15-60 days forward from the current 90 days forward, to better reflect typical trading norms.

Bids, offers, trades, and price indications for other qualities and terms may be considered and normalized to the standard qualities and terms for assessment purposes.

Additionally, for sulfur and ash, respectively, Platts has launched daily price differential assessments for every 0.1% (AVTCH00) and 1% (AVTCI00) above the typical levels, up to the maximum of the ranges.

Platts announced the decision of the above changes Oct. 1, following a proposal published Aug. 5, after a monthlong consultation starting June 30.

Platts continuously reviews its assessment methodology and seeks to reflect the most up-to-date specifications observed for its market coverage.
