Platts proposes to change Indonesian thermal coal specifications, launch price differentials for sulfur, ash

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, is proposing to amend the standard specifications and launch price differential assessments for sulfur and ash in its FOB Kalimantan thermal coal export assessments, effective Oct. 30.

Platts is proposing to change the typical range of sulfur and ash content reflected in the following FOB Kalimantan thermal coal assessments:

For FOB Kalimantan 5,000 GAR (CSAKI00) and 5,900 GAR (CSAKH00), Platts is also proposing to increase the standard shipment volume size to 75,000 mt from 55,000 mt while shortening the loading period to 15-60 days' forward from 90 days' forward currently, to better reflect typical trading norms.

Bids, offers, trades and price indications for other qualities and terms may be considered and normalized to the standard qualities and terms for assessment purposes.

Additionally, for sulfur and ash, respectively, Platts is proposing to launch price differential assessments for every percentage above the typical levels and up to the maximum of the ranges, for all FOB Kalimantan thermal coal assessments daily.

The proposal follows a monthlong consultation starting June 30: https://www.spglobal.com/commodity-insights/en/pricing-benchmarks/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/063025-platts-to-review-indonesian-thermal-coal-export-assessment-specifications
