Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has changed the minimum volume and carbon intensity specifications for its European waste biomethane GO certificate assessments, effective Oct. 22.
These changes reflect increasing trends within the biomethane market for a product with lower carbon intensities, with trades of an increased size being seen by market participants as more reflective of typical value.
As such, Platts has narrowed the CI definition range of waste certificates to between plus 20 g CO2e/MJ and 0 g CO2e/MJ. Platts previously assessed European waste biomethane GOs with a CI definition range between plus 25g CO2e/MJ and 0g CO2e/MJ.
The minimum volume value for assessments has risen from 1 GWh to 5 GWh.
While the updated minimum volume applies to all existing biomethane assessments, the new CI specifications apply only to all existing biomethane certificate assessments of waste feedstock origin.
