Following a period of industry consultation and feedback, S&P Global Platts has discontinued a series of sugar freight assessments due to a prolonged absence of spot market activity on these routes, effective October 16.
Platts first proposed this discontinuations in a subscriber note published July 17 (https://www.platts.com/subscriber-notes-details/27856089).
Significant changes in the trading patterns and flows have eroded liquidity on the Atlantic sugar freight routes such as Brazil to Ghana, Russia and the UAE. In the Asia Pacific market, the Thailand to Kenya and Guatemala to China as well as South Korea routes have seen very few spot fixtures over the last two years.
The following routes have been discontinued: Bagged * Thailand (Laem Chabang) to Kenya (Mombasa) 20KT SYCDA00 (Weekly) * Thailand (Laem Chabang) to Kenya (Mombasa) 20KT SYCDA03 (Monthly) * Southeast Brazil (Santos) to Ghana (Tema) 20KT SYCCD00 (Weekly) * Southeast Brazil (Santos) to Ghana (Tema) 20KT SYCCD03 (Monthly)
