Effective October 16, Platts has launched the Eagle Ford Marker, an assessment reflecting the value Eagle Ford shale crude oil in the US Gulf Coast. The EFM reflects the value of Eagle Ford at 47 API, adjusted for the yield value of products and Louisiana Light Sweet, a competing crude. Platts has derived the product yield for 47 API Eagle Ford from current market assays as traded in the USGC. Eagle Ford's yield value is established using Platts spot assessments for refined products, from fuel oil to LPGs. Platts uses LLS to normalize Eagle Ford's yield value to the market forces prevailing in the crude market. The LLS yield is derived applying the same product price assessments as used in the Eagle Ford yield calculation. In addition to the Eagle Ford Marker, Platts also began publishing on October 16 a daily average of Eagle Ford postings from four companies: Sunoco, Plains, Flint Hills, and Enterprise. This daily average is called Eagle Ford Postings Average, and provides a basis for comparison to the Eagle Ford Marker. Platts is also publishing the differential between the Eagle Ford Postings Average and the Eagle Ford Marker. The Eagle Ford Marker and Eagle Ford Postings Average is published in Platts Market Data, Crude Oil Marketwire, North American Crude Wire, Oilgram Price Report, and Platts Global Alert pages 214 and 260.
