Platts clarifies barge timings for CIF NOLA corn, soybean assessments

S&P Global Platts would like to clarify that the timing of its CIF New Orleans corn and soybean barge assessments refers to shipment months.

These assessments reflect typical barge loadings on the following key US inland waterways: the Mississippi River, the Illinois River and the Ohio River. Price information for barges loading from other inland waterways for delivery to New Orleans, Louisiana, may be normalized for assessment purposes. This has been the methodology underpinning the CIF NOLA corn and CIF NOLA soybeans assessments since they were launched in April 2016 and September 2018, respectively.

For CIF NOLA corn, Platts publishes assessments that reflect barges shipping during the current calendar month and the next calendar month forward, for delivery to New Orleans. For CIF NOLA soybeans, Platts publishes an assessment that reflects barges shipping in the current calendar month, for delivery to New Orleans. The CIF NOLA corn barge assessments roll on to the next calendar month five publication days before the end of the month. For example, from September 24-October 24, Platts will assess CIF NOLA corn barges shipping during the month of October and November; from October 25-November 22, Platts will be assessing CIF NOLA corn barges shipping during November and December.

The CIF NOLA soybean barge assessment rolls on to the next month of shipment on the first publication day after the 22nd of the month. For example, from September 23-October 22, Platts will assess CIF NOLA soybean barges shipping during the month of October; from October 23-November 22, Platts will be assessing CIF NOLA corn barges loading during November.
