S&P Global Platts has discontinued its low sulfur fuel oil 380 CST bunker fuel assessments in Genoa and Piraeus on Oct. 6, 2021.
Platts understands there has been a marked decline for low sulfur fuel oil for bunker fuel use, along with a decline in its regional production following the implementation of IMO 2020, the sulfur cap reduction mandate on marine fuels which means that the product can only be used in combination with scrubber technology.
This discontinuation follows a decision note published on Aug. 19, which can be found here: https://www.spglobal.com/platts/en/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/081921-platts-to-discontinue-european-lsfo-bunker-assessments-from-oct-6, and a proposal note published on June 8 and available here: https://www.spglobal.com/platts/en/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/060821-platts-proposes-to-discontinue-its-european-lsfo-bunker-assessments.
The affected assessments were as follows:
Assessment Code/Monthly Avg
Bunker FO 380 CST Piraeus LS 1% (Ex-Wharf) AARTF00/AARTF03
Bunker FO 380 CST 1.0% Genoa (Ex-Wharf) AARSR00/AARSR03
The assessments appeared in Platts Bunkerwire, Bunkerwire Monthly, on Platts Bunker Alert pages 1860 and 1861, Platts Shipping Alert pages 1220 and 1221, and in the Platts price database under the codes above.
