SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts proposes to discontinue silicon CIF Japan assessment

S&P Global Platts is proposing to discontinue the weekly 553-grade 98.5% silicon metal CIF Japan assessment. (symbol MMAJL00)

Platts publishes a FOB China silicon metal assessment, which is the main reference pricing point for silicon metal trades in Asia. As Japan imports almost all its 553-grade 98.5% silicon metal spot requirement from China, and China is expected to remain as Japan's dominant supply source, CIF Japan and FOB China assessments represent the same market segment.

The silicon metal FOB China assessment will continue to be published.

Platts proposes to discontinue publishing the price from January 26, 2018. Please send any feedback on this proposal by October 19, to Mayumi Watanabe, mayumi.watanabe@spglobal.com and pricemethodology@spglobal.com.
