Platts to add basis ports for European and African granular urea assessments

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity insights, will add basis ports to its FCA France, FOB Egypt and FOB Algeria granular urea assessments, effective Jan. 6, 2025.

The changes will add additional specificity to Platts Urea coverage, with the basis ports intended to reflect the most typical discharge locations in each country.

Platts will make the following changes to its granular assessments:

  • FOB Algeria assessment will be basis Arzew -- FGUAB04
  • FOB Egypt assessment will be basis Damietta and Abu Qir -- FGUEA04
  • FCA France assessment will be basis La Pallice -- FGUFA04

Market information related to other loading ports will still be used when reflective of the market and normalized back to the basis ports as appropriate.

This change follows a proposal published on July 17, in a subscriber note available here. The feedback period was extended to allow for additional feedback in a subscriber note available here.

In addition, Platts will launch parallel daily assessments for the three markets outlined above, as well as reforming the methodology for its weekly assessments, effective Jan. 2, 2025. Details can be found in the subscriber note published here.
