Platts specifies location basis for Lithium Hydroxide CIF North Asia; discontinues related import parity

S&P Global Platts has specified the location basis for the Platts Lithium Hydroxide CIF North Asia assessment as CIF Japan/South Korea, reflecting the current trade flows, effective Oct. 1, 2020.

Simultaneously, Platts has discontinued the Yuan-denominated CIF North Asia import parity calculation as the lithium hydroxide import business into China is no longer considered as the main trade flow.

Platts first proposed these changes on Sept. 7, 2020, in a subscriber note available here: https://www.spglobal.com/platts/en/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/090720-platts-proposes-to-specify-location-basis-for-lithium-hydroxide-cif-north-asia-assessment-discontinue-related-import-pari

Platts continues to reflect in its assessment pricing information about cargoes delivered to North Asian countries, other than Japan and South Korea, after normalization to the stated location basis.

Freight, quality differentials for lithium hydroxide cargoes, as well as the spreads and dynamics between different regions may be considered in normalization process.

The affected lithium hydroxide assessments are published on the fixed page PMA8888 of the real-time Platts Nonferrous Metals Alert, Platts Metals Alert, in Metals Daily and in Platts price database under the following codes:
