Platts clarifies TSI coking coal data treatment

S&P Global Platts would like to clarify data provision, validation and submission by market participants for TSI Coking Coal index.

TSI compiles pricing data from a broad range of companies involved in the coking coal market, including metallurgical coal miners, traders, intermediaries and steel producers.

TSI signs agreements with some data providers that ensures the highest quality information is used in the compilation of the index, but it may also consider information from other parties that are not signatories of such agreements.

Data providers are able to submit their transactional data via email, telephone, instant messengers and any other reasonable communication channels.

Following its discontinuation in 2018, the online platform is no longer used for data submission. Where both counterparties are known, TSI’s data validation process includes checks to ensure transactions are executed at arm’s length.
