S&P Global Platts proposes to launch two new daily container bunker charge assessments, as well as two net box rate assessments, excluding bunker charges, complementing existing container assessments, from November 1, 2018.
The new assessments would cover the following container routes already assessed by Platts:
Head-Haul Route From To Symbol PCR9 North Continent East Coast North America PCR0900
Back-Haul Route From To Symbol PCR10 East Coast North America North Continent PCR1000
The bunker charge assessments would reflect the bunker costs for transporting a forty-foot container on the above routes and will be expressed in $/FEU.
These assessments would be calculated using $/mt bunker prices in representative ports, published by Platts.
IFO380 PCR9 and PCR10 - Rotterdam, New York, Savannah, Charleston and Norfolk
LSMGO PCR9 and PCR10 - Rotterdam, New York, Savannah, Charleston, and Norfolk
The variables used in calculating bunker charge assessments, including vessel size, fuel consumption, voyage duration and cargo allocation percentages would be based on current market practice and updated regularly.
The new net box rate assessments would be calculated by deducting the daily values of bunker charge assessments from the box rate assessments for the above routes and would also be on a $/FEU basis.
These prices will be published in Platts Dry Freight Wire and Platts Global Alert service on the fixed page PGA 3960 and in the Platts database.
