Platts to remove min 50% GHG saving/max CI 41.90g CO2e/MJ ethanol instrument from eWindow

Platts will remove the 41.90g carbon intensity instrument from the Europe T2 Ethanol FOB Rotterdam (AAYDT00) Physical eWindow communication tool, effective Oct. 31.

Platts will remove from the eWindow communication tool the instrument for ethanol meeting a maximum carbon intensity level of 41.90g CO2e/MJ, equivalent to a minimum GHG saving of 50% based on a fossil fuel comparator of 83.8g CO2e/MJ under the European Commissions Renewable Energy Directive (RED) I framework and 55.4% based on the RED II fossil fuel comparator of 94g CO2e/MJ.

Market feedback indicates that ethanol with GHG saving properties below 60% based on RED I is no longer reflective of a majority of the European market. Removing the 41.90g carbon intensity instrument from the eWindow communication tool will have no impact on the methodology of the T2 Ethanol FOB Rotterdam assessment (AAYDT00).

Platts may continue to publish bids, offers and trades for ethanol meeting other levels of carbon intensity and normalize to the European T2 Ethanol FOB Rotterdam specification of maximum 33.52g CO2e/MJ, equivalent to a minimum GHG saving of 60% under RED I.
