Platts to specify timing of sustainability documentation for ETBE

Following a consultation and proposal period, S&P Global Platts will amend its European ETBE methodology to specify timing for the provision of sustainability documentation, effective Oct. 7, 2020.

Platts will also rename the assessment description for the ETBE differential to MTBE from premium to spread, also effective Oct. 7.

Platts opened a consultation process on its European ETBE methodology on June 18, 2020, in a subscriber note available here: https://rb.gy/ji70mw

This was followed by a formal proposal on Aug. 7, 2020, in a subscriber note available here: https://rb.gy/w1i0ye

The changes are as follows:

  • Platts will only publish bids, offers and trades in which the seller agrees to provide proof of sustainability documentation within 30 calendar days from barge loading.
  • Platts assessment AASLQ02, which reflects the ETBE FOB AR spot price difference to MTBE FOB ARA, will be renamed from "ETBE premium" to "ETBE spread".Platts has opened a consultation inviting further feedback on the typical minimum level of greenhouse gas savings for ETBE traded in Europe and on the typical quality or purity of ETBE traded in Europe.

Platts ETBE specifications can be found in page 10 of the European petrochemicals methodology document here: https://rb.gy/fguqds

Platts ETBE assessments appear on Platts Biofuels Alert pages 1420, 1010, 1011, and 1012, in the Biofuelscan and Fuel Ethanol Report publications, and in Platts Market Data under the following codes: AASLQ00, AASLQ02, AASLQ01, AASLQ04, AASLQ03, AASLQ13.
