S&P Global Platts would like to clarify that the European Used Cooking Oil (UCO) assessments reflect a minimum Iodine Value of 80 grams per 100 grams of used cooking oil.
The Iodine Value is determined by introducing iodine into 100 grams of the sample under test and measuring how many grams of that iodine are absorbed. This test measures the number of double bonds in the mixture of fatty acid chains in the fuel.
The Platts Biofuels guide currently states, incorrectly, that Platts European UCO assessments reflect "a minimum of 80gr iodine per 100gr of biodiesel."
