Platts adds Profat specification to DDGS assessments

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has amended the methodology for its DDGS assessments by adding a profat, combined protein and fat, specification to the following assessments, from Sept. 5.

1. US Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles CIF New Orleans (AADDG00)

2. US Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles FOB Chicago trucks (ACDDG00)

Platts has further defined the quality specification with the addition of a 34% profat minimum quality specification to the Dried Distillers Grains with Solubles assessments.

The minimum profat specification is included in addition to individual minimum levels for protein and fat, which are unchanged for both assessments:

Protein: 25% minimum

Fat: 6% minimum

This launch follows a decision note published July 14 and available here: https://www.spglobal.com/commodityinsights/en/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/071423-platts-proposes-adding-profat-specification-to-ddgs-assessments(opens in a new tab)

Also, a decision note was published Aug. 2 and is available here:

Feedback indicated that market participants typically specify a profat quality specification during their market activity, in addition to minimum levels for protein and fat. Feedback has also showed that the majority of production volumes, as well as standard trading practices, are now based on a 34% profat minimum.
