Following industry feedback, Platts confirms that, with effect from September 2, 2013, it will discontinue all marine diesel oil assessments across Europe and Africa. Platts will continue to assess marine gasoil in all affected locations. Platts has been assessing MDO at several ports in the Europe, Middle East, Africa region since 1986. Since then, demand for MDO has generally been replaced by demand for marine gasoil or other similar fuels. MDO typically now accounts for less than 1% of bunker fuel supplied at major ports in the EMEA region. These assessments were published on Platts Global Alert, Platts Bunkerwire and in the Platts price assessment database. These suspensions follow similar updates to Platts coverage in the Americas, where MDO assessments were discontinued on January 2, 2013. In Asia and the Middle East, Platts previously suspended most MDO assessments on February 1, 2013. MGO assessments have been launched or maintained for all affected ports.
