SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts launches new refined product assessments for Mexico

As part of its commitment to provide insight into developing markets, S&P Global Platts has begun publishing a number of new assessments for refined products delivered into Mexico, with effect from September 1, 2017.

The Mexican energy sector is undergoing significant change, with private companies now allowed to import, distribute and sell transport fuel. Liberalized retail pricing is being introduced in phases this year. With domestic refineries unable to meet demand for road fuels, Mexico imports a significant volume of refined products, with the overwhelming majority coming from the US.

Platts was already assessing gasoline and ULSD on a delivered basis at the port of Tuxpan on the Gulf of Mexico.

Platts has now added assessments for gasoline, ULSD and jet fuel on a delivered basis to Mexico's Pacific coast, meeting the country's specifications. There are separate assessments for the northern part of the Pacific coast, basis CIF Rosarito, and the southern part, basis CIF Lazaro Cardenas.

Platts has also added a new assessment for jet fuel on a delivered basis at Tuxpan, meeting the country's specifications.

All of the new assessments represent the value of a delivered cargo of 250,000-350,000 barrels of product. For Tuxpan, the assessments reflect a delivery period of 7-21 days forward from the day of assessment. For the Pacific Coast, the assessments reflect a delivery period of 21-35 days forward.

All of the Mexican refined product assessments are being published in $/barrel and the equivalent Mexican Pesos/liter value, including the two existing assessments on the Gulf of Mexico that were previously published just in $/barrel.
