S&P Global Platts is proposing to introduce a daily price assessment for Vietnamese OM 5451 5% broken white rice to be launched Nov. 1, 2021.
The expansion of "soft cooking" varieties, such as OM 5451, in South East Asian rice production has been noticeable in recent years, with many farmers switching away from traditional varieties to this premium and high yielding product.
OM 5451 has proven to be an extremely popular variety in key Vietnamese destination markets, primarily the Philippines, but also certain West African markets. An OM 5451 assessment would be an addition to Platts' existing daily Vietnamese IR 50404 white rice assessments.
Platts' assessment of this grade would be published in the Rice Daily and Rice Weekly reports.
