Following an extended period of industry feedback, S&P Global Platts has decided not to include a minimum total aromatics content of 15% by weight in its FOB Singapore 10 ppm sulfur gasoil specifications.
The decision follows market feedback that the vast majority of import destinations in the Asia-Pacific region, and elsewhere, do not require a minimum total aromatics content when importing ultra low sulfur diesel barrels.
Platts understands that most of the ULSD produced and exported in Asia typically has total aromatics content that is well above 15%, but that barrels can be blended to meet a particular country's import requirements, as necessary,

Platts first proposed to add a minimum total aromatics content to its FOB Singapore 10 ppm sulfur gasoil specifications in a subscriber note published March 3, 2020. The feedback period on this proposal was later extended in a note published June 1: http://plts.co/FpJs30r6krQ
Platts periodically reviews the specifications of all its assessments to ensure they are representative of the most tradable grades.
Such reviews may lead to changes to the existing specifications of an assessment, though any changes would be subject to further industry consultation ahead of any final decision.
