SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts proposes new Powder River Basin thermal coal assessment

S&P Global Platts is proposing to launch a new weekly US thermal coal assessment to reflect the value of Powder River Basin coal, from October 18.

The new assessment would reflect the following specifications: PRB 9,400 Btu/lb, 0.8 lbs SO2/MMBtu.

The assessment would reflect the value for front-quarter delivery at rail origin points in Montana, and would be reported in $/st.

The assessment would be published weekly in Coal Trader and on Global Coal Alert GCA220.
