SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts to begin delivered Mexico City HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE assessments

Following a period of feedback after a formal proposal published July 18, 2016, as well as a previous public consultation and review period, S&P Global Platts has decided to launch delivered Mexico City high-density polyethylene, linear low-density butene polyethylene and low-density polyethylene spot assessments on a weekly basis from September 1, 2016, to capture growing market liquidity.

Basis and location specifications are for domestic prices in US dollars, and will also be published in pesos/mt, and are for material delivered by a rail car 3-30 days out and reflect a delivered Mexico City price. In the absence of rail car pricing indications, resin delivered via bag by truck also will be considered.

Specifications for the PE grades are: LDPE with a melt flow index of 1.8-2.5; LLDPE butene-1 grade with a melt flow rate of around 1.0; HDPE blowmolding grade with a melt flow rate 0.25 and higher; and HDPE injection grade with a melt flow rate of 2.0-25, with the majority of business focused on crate grade material with a melt flow index between 5-11.
