Platts proposes to amend basis locations for its polyolefins CFR Mercosur assessments

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, is proposing to narrow the basis location for its CFR Mercosur polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) assessments to Montevideo (Uruguay) and Buenos Aires (Argentina), effective Sept. 25, 2025.

Under the current methodology, Platts considers Asuncion (Paraguay) as a par port alongside Montevideo and Buenos Aires.

However, Platts understands that the logistics and costs for delivery to Asuncion do not align with those of Montevideo and Buenos Aires, leading to a consistent divergence of values in Asuncion versus other locations in the region.

Under the proposal, any information received on an Asunción basis may still be considered in the assessment, subject to normalization.

Information received for other basis locations and under other incoterms, such as CPT and CIF, may also be considered, subject to normalization, as clarified here .

The CFR Mercosur PE and PP assessments are published every Wednesday, and in accordance with the Brazil holiday publishing schedule, in Polymerscan (PO) and Latin American Polymerscan (POLA), as well as on Platts Connect and in the Platts Price Point database under the following codes:
