August 05, 2025
Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has launched two daily price assessments for granular urea -- CFR Brazil North-Northeast and CFR Brazil South-Southeast -- effective Aug. 1, 2025, and has refined the methodology of the weekly granular urea CFR Brazil range assessment.
The assessments capture market activity in Brazil's different regions and complement Platts' existing coverage of the country's urea market.
The assessments have the following specifications:
Assessment name: Granular Urea CFR Brazil NNE
Quality: 46% N, granular urea in bulk
Quantity: 5,000-25,000 mt
Basis and location: CFR Itaqui, Maranhao
Timing: Shipments arriving at destination ports seven to 30 days from the date of publication
Frequency: Daily
Unit of assessment: $/mt
Timestamp: 4:30 pm Sao Paulo, following the Sao Paulo publishing calendar
Assessment Name: Granular Urea CFR Brazil SSE
Quality: 46% N, granular urea in bulk
Quantity: 5,000-25,000 mt
Basis and location: CFR Paranagua, Parana
Timing: Shipments arriving at destination ports seven to 30 days from the date of publication
Frequency: Daily
Unit of assessment: $/mt
Timestamp: 4:30 pm Sao Paulo, following the Sao Paulo publishing calendar
The daily price assessments are published as a single "close" value with a 4:30 pm Sao Paulo timestamp, and they follow the Sao Paulo publishing calendar. Both consider the price information gathered up to the close of the assessment process, including firm bids and offers, trades and indicative values, as any other data deemed relevant.
Additionally, Platts has amended the specifications for the existing weekly Granular Urea CFR Brazil $/mt (FGUBC04), effective Aug. 1, 2025.
The assessed range continues to be published every Thursday with a 4:30 pm Sao Paulo timestamp, and reflects the lowest and highest values published during the week from the two daily granular urea CFR Brazil NNE and SSE assessments mentioned above. No fresh market information is taken into account.
Following the launch of the regional price assessments, these changes ensure that the assessment reflects granular urea market activity in the whole country.
Platts aligns the specifications for this range assessment to match those of its inputs. The updated specifications for weekly CFR Brazil are as follows:
