Platts launches daily thermal coal blend price, EBP

S&P Global Platts launches four daily price assessments reflecting the value coals imported into North West European used in blends for coal fired power stations, published in Coal Trader International and Coal Trader on August 5, 2019.

The initial European Blended Price (EBP) code (TEBPA00) will be calculated to reflect a blend of 75% US Illinois Basin coal, and 25% Low Sulfur coal, to a 6,000 kcal/kg NAR, CIF ARA basis.

Platts will also publish the differential of the EBP to the current CIF ARA (CSARM01) physical assessment.

Additionally, Platts will publish two components of the initial EBP; the US coal component will be based on US Illinois Basin on a CIF ARA basis, using prevailing freight rates and our published FOB (CUAFA04) assessment. And the Low Sulfur Coal blend stock component will reflect coals on a CIF ARA basis, 5,850 kcal/kg NAR, 0.4% sulfur and be based on trades, bids and offers and indications to trade, heard in the market from market participants.

The assessments will be published daily in Coal Trader International, Coal Trader and on Global Coal Alert pages 410, 425, European Power Alert 910, 912, and Market Data category CI.
